Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has dismissed allegations of racial abuse against Angel Chakma, the 24-year-old student from Tripura who was beaten to death in Dehradun earlier this month, saying that Uttarakhand is a ‘Devbhoomi’, a centre of nationalism where lakhs of students come to study.Angel Chakma, an MBA student, was attacked by a group of miscreants with knives and other blunt objects in Dehradun on December 9 and later died while undergoing treatment at a hospital.In an exclusive conversation with Times Now, Pushkar Singh Dhami said that they were equally sad and in grief on the tragic death of Angel Chakma as this is a painful incident for the state but more than that for victim’s family.

The Chief Minister said that 5 out of 6 accused were held at the earliest and assured that one suspect who is believed to have escaped the country will be held soon.When asked to respond on the claims made by the victim’s family that Angel Chakma was subjected to racial abuse, Pushkar Singh Dhami said that Uttarakhand is a big centre of nationalism, most families here have their members serving in the Army or para-military and lakhs of students come here to study adding there is nothing like this ‘racial’ here.

This is a place which takes along everyone and there is no question of any such thing happening here, he added.When pressed again that some students are of the view that such cases have surfaced in the past as well and there is need for more stricter policies, the Chief Minister said they will be more strict in areas wherever it is necessary.

The police also took possession of CCTV footage from the crime scene.Meanwhile, the police headquarters has announced a reward of Rs 1 lakh for information leading to the arrest of the main absconding accused, Yagya Raj Awasthi.

How Far Investigation Has Progressed in Angel Chakma’s Death Case
Earlier on Tuesday, SSP Ajay Singh briefed on the killing of Angel Chakma, asserting that five people have been arrested. At the same time, teams have been formed to locate the sixth accused, who is on the run.SSP Singh mentioned that a preliminary investigation was conducted, during which additional sections were added to the case, including sections related to attempted murder."Along with that, a supplementary report was taken, in which the sections were increased. Sections of the attempt to murder (109) were added on the basis of statements. In the meantime, a separate team was formed, and five people were arrested. The sixth accused was of Nepali origin. He left the place the next day after the incident. For this, a dedicated team has been set up. According to the information so far, the accused may be hiding in nearby bordering areas," he said.He also revealed that Uttarakhand CM has been briefed about the developments of the incident. Singh stated that the police have recorded statements from the victim's family.

Uttarakhand CM Briefs Tripura Counterpart on Angel Chakma’s Death
Prior to this, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Tuesday said that his Uttarakhand counterpart Pushkar Singh Dhami assured him that his government will take stringent steps against those who are involved in the murder of Angel Chakma.
