New Delhi: President of India Droupadi Murmu on Sunday gave her accent to the newly passed bill in the Parliament - VB-G RAM G (Viksit Bharat’s Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission Gramin) that is set to replace two-decade old scheme MGNREGA - Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act.The VB-G RAM G Bill, 2025, was passed by Parliament, amid opposition protests.It seeks to replace the existing rural employment law, MGNREGA, and guarantees 125 days of wage employment per rural household per financial year.ALSO READ | VB-G RAM G Ends MGNREGA After Two Decades - How It Will Help Rural Workers - Explained According to the government, the new scheme aims to establish a rural development framework aligned with the national vision
of 'Viksit Bharat 2047'.
How VB-G RAM G is Different From MGNREGA
- VB-G RAM G will bring significant changes from the existing guaranteed rural employment days program MGNREGA like increasing the number of guaranteed work days, distribution of funding between the Centre and States, pausing the assured number of days during peak farming and agriculture season.
- The new bill raises the guaranteed employment days from 100 to 125 in a financial year to every rural household.
- Under VB-G Ram G, not just the Centre, but the States too will have to share the burden for wage payment.
- It will allow a pause in the guaranteed employment during the peak agriculture season. The idea behind pausing the guaranteed employment is to ensure that adequate labour availability.
- Under the new VB-G RAM G scheme, workers will be eligible for weekly payments unlike 15-day wait period in MGNREGA.
