Assam Final Voters List Published; Over 2.43 Lakh Names Deleted Ahead of Assembly Polls

The final electoral roll for poll bound Assam was published on Tuesday revealing a deletion of over 2.43 lakh names from the draft voters list officials from the Election Commission said. According to a statement issued by the office of the Assam Chief Electoral Officer CEO the final voters list now comprises 2,49,58,139 electors marking a 0.97 percent decrease from the draft roll published on December 27 2025. The draft list had recorded 2,52,01,624 voters. The final roll includes 1,24,82,213 male voters 1,24,75,583 female voters and 343 third gender voters reflecting a near equal gender distribution.Poll officials said that during the special revision of electoral rolls conducted between November 22 and December 27 2025 a total of 7.87 lakh new

voters were added while 10.26 lakh names were deleted. The deletions were attributed to deceased electors 4.79 lakh shifted voters 5.24 lakh and multiple entries 53,619.As many as 29,646 booth level officers were engaged across the state to carry out the revision exercise. Unlike the Special Intensive Revision SIR undertaken simultaneously in 12 other states and Union Territories Assam followed a distinct revision process.The CEO office noted that the draft electoral roll had shown a 1.35 percent increase compared to the previous final roll published in January 2025 before the latest corrections were made.Electors or applicants with grievances have been given a 30 day appeal window. Appeals can be filed before the District Magistrate within 15 days of the publication of the final roll with a second appeal option available to the CEO within 30 days.The period for submitting claims and objections after the publication of the draft roll was from December 27 2025 to January 22 2026.Meanwhile Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said an extensive Special Intensive Revision SIR of Assam electoral rolls would be undertaken after the Assembly elections likely by April. Assam has 126 Assembly constituencies with elections due in the coming months.
