Guwahati: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will participate in Bagurumba Dwhou 2026, a landmark cultural event celebrating the rich heritage and artistic legacy of the Bodo community, scheduled to be held at the Bhogeswar Barua Sports Complex in Sarusajai, Guwahati.The mega cultural spectacle will witness a historic, synchronised performance of the traditional Bagurumba dance by over 10,000 Bodo artistes, marking one of the largest such presentations ever staged. Performers from 81 Legislative Assembly constituencies across 23 districts of Assam will come together, reflecting the collective spirit and unity of the Bodo community. Bagurumba, a classical folk dance of the Bodos, is deeply inspired by nature and symbolises the harmony between human
life and the natural world. Traditionally performed by young Bodo women, with men providing musical accompaniment, the dance is known for its graceful and flowing movements that imitate butterflies, birds, leaves and blooming flowers. The performances are usually organised in circular or linear formations, enhancing the visual elegance of the dance.The dance holds immense cultural significance, symbolising peace, fertility, joy and collective harmony. It is closely associated with major Bodo festivals such as Bwisagu, the Bodo New Year, and Domasi.The presence of the Prime Minister at Bagurumba Dwhou 2026 is expected to further highlight Assam’s vibrant indigenous culture on the national stage, celebrating the artistic traditions and cultural identity of the Bodo people.Also Read: Assam Elections 2026: BJP Confident of Return
