'Reel Star' Jibe at Collector Tina Dabi as Students Protest Fee Hike in Barmer

Barmer district collector Tina Dabi has been drawn into a controversy after students protesting a fee hike at a local college accused her of being a "reel star" and demanded to meet her. The incident followed a sit-in by students of Maharana Bhupal College Girls College in Barmer, who were protesting an increase in examination fees. Video footage from the protest shows students calling for a meeting with the district collector. Tensions rose when some protesters described Dabi as a "reel star", a reference to her active presence on social media. on social media suggested that four students had been detained, but both the police and the district administration denied these reports. Dabi said the issue fell under the jurisdiction of the University of Jodhpur and was not a matter for the district administration. "The university vice-chancellor later assured the students that the hike would be rolled back, but the protesters insisted on meeting me," told The Indian Express. "The SDM and tehsildar went to assure the students that the matter had been resolved by the vice-chancellor, but they continued to insist that I should meet them. The students were then taken to the police station for a discussion because they were blocking the road." Police officials also said no students were detained, describing the allegations as being made by "notorious students who wanted to create social media buzz through this incident".
