Bihar election 2025: An FIR has been registered against Union minister and senior JD(U) leader Rajiv Ranjan Singh, also known as 'Lalan' Singh, for allegedly
making inflammatory remarks against opposition leaders during a campaign rally in Bihar’s Mokama.
According to the Patna district administration, the action followed the emergence of a video purportedly showing the minister urging supporters to prevent rival voters from stepping out on polling day.
"The video footage was examined by the District Administration, Patna. Following the investigation, an FIR has been registered against Lalan Singh alias Rajiv Ranjan Singh under the sections of the BNSS and the Representation of the People Act," the Patna district administration said in a post on X.
Controversial Remarks Caught on Video
In the viral video, which Times Now could not independently verify, Lalan Singh is heard speaking in Magahi, allegedly saying, “There are some people out here whom you must not allow to venture out on polling day. Lock them up inside their homes. If they cajole you, accompany them to polling booths and ensure they go home after casting their vote.”
The footage was reportedly shot in Mokama, part of Singh’s Munger Lok Sabha constituency.
His remarks came while campaigning for JD(U) candidate and former MLA Anant Singh, who was arrested recently in connection with the murder of Jan Suraaj Party supporter Dular Chand Yadav.
Defending Anant Singh
During his campaign speech, Lalan Singh defended the jailed JD(U) candidate, calling his arrest a “conspiracy.”
“After Anant Singh’s arrest, every person should contest the election as Anant Singh. From today, I have taken the command of Mokama into my own hands,” he said at the rally.
Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also joined Singh during the campaign.
Opposition Hits Back
The Opposition parties condemned Lalan Singh’s comments, calling them a threat to free and fair elections.
RJD, in a post on X, accused the minister of “running a bulldozer over democracy".
The party wrote, "Lalan Singh, while running a bulldozer over the chest of the Election Commission, is saying that the poor should not be allowed to step out of their homes on voting day! They should be locked inside the house, if they create too much fuss, then take them along and let them cast their vote. Where is the dead commission?"
