When Danielle and her husky, Pandora, moved houses recently, they were excited to make new friends in their community. Danielle assumed it would take time to build bonds — then Pandora fell in love with someone on their very first walk around the neighborhood.
It all started when Danielle and Pandora decided to check out their local park soon after moving in. The two were walking down their quiet residential street when Pandora suddenly saw a flash of white fur in someone’s fenced-in yard.
Pandora, friendly as ever, couldn’t wait to meet the fluffy dog on the other side of the fence.
“Pandora spotted [a] Samoyed … and pulled me towards her to say hello,” Danielle told The Dodo.
Pandora raced to the fence to greet the Samoyed, whom Danielle later learned was named Sissy. Danielle wasn’t sure how Sissy would feel about an unknown dog running up to her, but the fluffy pup seemed just as happy to see Pandora as Pandora was to see her.
“It was love at first sight,” Danielle said. “They got along straight away.”
Pandora and Sissy excitedly sniffed each other through the gate, exchanging little kisses and touching paws between the metal bars. Danielle was thrilled to see Pandora make a new friend. And although they eventually had to continue to the park, Danielle promised Pandora that they’d stop by as often as they could.
The next morning, Danielle and Pandora decided to go to the park again and stopped at Sissy’s house along the way. The two pups hung out for around 10 minutes, then said goodbye to do it all again the next day.
“Every morning, I take Pandora to the park, and she starts to pull me and whine because she wants to say hello to her friend,” Danielle said. “And now this is part of our daily routine.”

Seeing Sissy soon became Pandora’s favorite part of the day. And despite being separated by a metal fence, the two quickly learned how to play with each other.
“Sometimes they run from one side of the gate to the other side as if they were chasing each other. Sometimes they bow, and Sissy gets zoomies in the garden,” Danielle said. “But mostly they like to be close to each other.”
After weeks of meetings with no doorbell in sight, Danielle was finally able to get in touch with Sissy’s parents the other day and hopes to plan an official playdate soon.
Sissy’s family was pleased to learn she’d made a new friend. And Danielle couldn’t be happier that her sweet pup was able to make a friend so quickly in their new neighborhood.
She just can’t wait to get the two pups together without a fence between them.
“Hopefully, it will happen soon,” Danielle said.
