As an actor, Alicia Silverstone’s work spans genres — from beloved comedies like "Clueless" to critically acclaimed thrillers like "The Killing of a Sacred Deer" and "Bugonia."
But many don’t know about one of her most important roles: her work as an animal
advocate and dog rescuer.
For years, the actress cared for her beloved rescue pups, Pinto Bean and Tiny, along with a revolving door of foster pets. In 2025, she connected with the Helen Woodward Animal Center to help even more animals, including Noel, a 3-year-old pregnant terrier mix.
Orphaned at a motel near San Bernardino, Noel ended up at a nearby animal control facility. Unfortunately, the overcrowded shelter couldn’t care for the pup, so they put her on the euthanasia list.
When Silverstone saw a post about Noel’s situation, she knew she had to do something. According to FOX 5, she called Helen Woodward Animal Center president and CEO Mike Arms, who quickly agreed to help.
Within moments of her rescue, Noel gave birth. Silverstone didn’t rescue one dog that day — she rescued 13.
“The day they were going to kill her, she happened to have her babies, which is kinda crazy,” Silverstone told FOX 5. “They’re so cute. And my son and I were just in a puppy pile with them.”
Now Silverstone hopes to save more dogs like Noel as the Featured Luminary of the 14th annual Remember Me Thursday (RMT) campaign.
Celebrated annually on the fourth Thursday of September, Remember Me Thursday is an international awareness campaign organized by the Helen Woodward Animal Center that sheds light on adoptable animals waiting in shelters.
Given her years of animal advocacy, event organizers knew Silverstone was a perfect fit.
“Alicia’s dedication to the animal welfare movement is a defining part of who she is,” Helen Woodward Animal Center President and CEO Mike Arms said in a press release. “Her heart for the cause is known throughout Hollywood and to the millions of fans who love her. We are honored to have her as this year’s Featured RMT Luminary because we know her voice is one that can reach so many and make a huge impact on the lives of orphan pets everywhere.”
Animal lovers can join Silverstone and other celebrity advocates on Thursday, September 24, by making their voices heard across social media, entering the Remember Me Thursday contest and participating in Remember Me Thursday events at shelters across the country.
With any luck, plenty of shelter pets will find homes, thanks to the people who never gave up on them.
