Last July, Suzette Hall received an urgent call for help from a Good Samaritan in her community. The man reported finding a small white dog lying in an alleyway, and when he realized the pup couldn’t move,
he reached out to Hall’s rescue, Logan’s Legacy 29, right away.
When Hall arrived at the scene, she was heartbroken to see the pup, who’d likely been abandoned, still in the same place where he’d initially been found. She instantly worried that he’d possibly been hit by a car and paralyzed.
“He just lay there, unable to move his back legs, in so much pain and all alone,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “He was so severely matted, and a kind-hearted gentleman did the only thing he could — he brought him food and water while hoping someone would come to help.”
Thankfully, Hall was eager to help the little guy. She carefully scooped him up and drove him to Camino Pet Hospital, where he underwent an emergency checkup. Although X-rays didn’t show any obvious injuries, the dog, whom they named Aioli, still couldn’t use his back legs. So, the team set him up in a cozy crate and decided to treat him with steroids, rest and love, in hopes that he’d walk again.
“[W]e are not giving up on him,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “[W]e truly believe he has a chance to regain the use of his legs.”
Aioli’s case was puzzling, but his team of caregivers never gave up hope. And after a week of around-the-clock care, Aioli surprised them by attempting to put weight on his back legs.
“He’s starting to stand,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “I truly believe he’s going to walk again … [E]very single day he’s showing us just how strong he is.”
Aioli’s ability to stand only improved as the days passed. Then, after another 10 days of care, Aioli shocked everyone by attempting to walk again. All of his caregivers, including Hall, were beside themselves with emotion as they saw him take his first few steps.
“Watching those little legs move and seeing him take those steps feels like witnessing a miracle right before my eyes,” Hall wrote on Facebook. “This is what love, faith and believing in miracles can do. I am absolutely in awe.”
You can watch him walk again for the first time here:
By the end of August, Aioli had regained control of his back legs and took every opportunity he could to trot around. Although he experienced a minor setback with an elbow injury, he was finally feeling like himself again and ready to find a forever family.
It’s been a little over two months since Aioli’s rescue, and the little guy is doing better than ever. He’s now receiving specialized laser treatments and physical therapy to “give him the very best chance of continuing to improve,” as Hall wrote on Facebook.
And while he’s still waiting for his happily-ever-after, Aioli couldn’t be more grateful that a random stranger and a team of professionals stopped at nothing to save him.
