Last week, Giovana Vieira, her boyfriend and a few friends stayed at a rural property in Brazil for a weekend getaway. Vieira had no idea the trip would lead to one of the most memorable moments of her life.
Or that it would be shared with an adorable
stranger.
Giovana’s boyfriend, Eduardo, had secretly brought a ring along, planning to ask her to marry him. To capture the surprise, he set up his phone to record the proposal.
But then a furry proposal video-crasher unexpectedly appeared:
“At that moment, I was so overwhelmed by the proposal that I didn’t even notice [the dog] was right there,” Giovana told The Dodo. “We only realized it later, when watching the footage. We found it hilarious, and it definitely made everything even more special.”
Giovana, of course, said yes. After watching the footage, Giovana and Eduardo fell in love with the pup, too.
The dog, whom they dubbed Caramela, hung around the rented property during the rest of their stay, delighting them with her company.
“She was such a sweetheart! So well-behaved,” Giovana said.
Where the dog had come from was a mystery. Giovana and Eduardo asked the property’s owner whether the dog had a home, hoping to adopt her if she didn’t. They learned she has a loving family who lives nearby. Caramela just enjoys exploring and making new friends.
Caramela — the one and only witness to the couple’s proposal — has earned a place in their hearts. But Giovana and Eduardo hope she can join them for at least one more special occasion.
She’s invited to their big day when it comes.
“We’re planning to go visit Caramela this week,” Giovana said. “We definitely want her to be part of the wedding!”
