When a man noticed a mama cat and her three kittens living in his yard in London, he began keeping an eye on them. He left food out and wasn’t too concerned — until he noticed one of the kittens had something stuck around her neck.
The tiny kitten had
somehow gotten trapped in the top of a broken glass jar, and it was digging into her fur. The man knew he needed to find her some help fast, and it wasn’t long before the RSPCA and Battersea Dogs & Cats Home came together to rescue her.
Paige Havlin, an animal rescue officer with the RSPCA, went out to the man’s house and helped him secure the little family. She then drove them all to Battersea Dogs & Cats Home, and the team worked to free the kitten from her predicament.
“Thankfully, with two pairs of hands, we were able to carefully wiggle the kitten’s legs through the glass jar and then slide it over her neck and off,” Havlin said in a press release. “She had a few superficial cuts but, miraculously, no major injuries.”
They named the resilient little kitten Mason and were relieved that she seemed to be OK. The entire family was able to relax and recuperate in the care of Battersea, all thanks to the man who made sure they got the help they needed.
“Mason and her littermates are recovering remarkably well following their frightening ordeal,” Grace Oliver, cattery team leader at Battersea, said in a press release. “Battersea’s vets fully assessed the family when they arrived at our London center and found that, amazingly, Mason had suffered no significant injuries.”
The other cats were named Mama Moustache, Baby Moustache and Kilner. The rescue is beginning the process of finding them all the perfect homes, where they’ll continue to grow and learn to just be cats.
“Our feline experts have since been working to build the kittens’ confidence, giving them the time and space they need to settle and thrive,” Oliver said.
