Meet Lola: a beloved cat who recently proved she’s stronger than anyone thought.
Earlier this month, Lola accidentally wandered up to the top of her family’s apartment building, fell through a hole in the floor, and became trapped upside down.
Aided by
animal rescuer John Debacker, Lola’s family set traps and cameras throughout the building, trying in vain to find their cat. Days turned into a week, and they still couldn’t catch Lola.
When they heard her cries through the wall, the rescuers contacted Cathy Lucarello, a local contractor, who agreed to help.
Debacker and Lucarello tore through the plaster, waiting with bated breath until they saw a bit of fur. Finally, they found terrified Lola and pulled her out to safety.
Rescuers estimate Lola was inside the wall for about a week. They couldn’t believe she spent so much time upside down, unable to move, eat or drink.
“How she survived is beyond miraculous,” Debacker wrote in a Facebook post.
Rescuers took Lola to an emergency veterinarian, where she received treatment for her injuries. In time, Lola began behaving like herself again.
Thanks to Debacker and Lucarello’s expertise, Lola is on the road to recovery.
“She’s finally meowing,” one of Lola’s caretakers told Debacker. “She looks like life has been restored in her.”
