The other day, a man was on his way to work, driving through rainy weather in Von Ormy, Texas, when he noticed a crate abandoned on the side of the road. The driver, who fosters dogs through God’s Dogs Rescue, immediately pulled over.
Approaching the crate,
the man locked eyes with eight fluffy puppies trapped inside. The dogs were wet, flea-ridden and in desperate need of help.
The driver contacted his friends at the rescue. In a flash, a volunteer network — including Lexi Tschetter, Theresa Gummow, Rale Gonyon, Amy Luginbill, Jodi Walter, Kristin Bodden, EJ Simmons and Jan Lenertz — banded together to ensure the pups had a safe place to land.
Rescuers bathed the 5-week-old dogs and removed the fleas from their fur. They provided vaccines along with deworming medication and iron supplements. Over time, the puppies regained their energy.
“Today they are doing fantastic — happy, healthy, fat babies,” a representative from the rescue told The Dodo.
The puppies will remain with their foster families until they're ready to look for permanent families of their own.
Rescuers are so glad the pups ended up in the right place, and they hope this story encourages community members to spay and neuter their pets to avoid situations like this in the future.
“If your animals are spayed and neutered, you don’t have to worry about the accidental litters and not knowing what to do,” the representative said.
Thankfully, in this case, the pups ended up exactly where they belonged.
“It’s always an amazing feeling to see puppies saved!” the representative said.
