In Brisbane, Australia, the company Happy Hounds Dog Walking and Pet Sitting offers more than just their namesake services. One option is to have them act as wedding attendants for pets on their parents’ big days.
“Our team can assist with everything from
transporting the dogs to and from the venue to supervising them, helping them participate in the ceremony and keeping them comfortable and happy throughout the celebrations,” a spokesperson for Happy Hounds told The Dodo.
It was in this capacity that they met Donny and Rio — two sweet golden retrievers who were to serve as ring bearers at the wedding of their parents, Tom and Carina.
But things didn’t exactly go as planned.
Dressed to the nines in their little tuxedos, Donny and Rio were there to greet all the guests with their trademark smiles. And when the ceremony got underway and their moment to deliver the rings arrived, they hit their mark perfectly.
“Tom and Carina were keen to have Donny and Rio run off-leash down the aisle to deliver their wedding rings,” Happy Hounds said. “To their credit, both boys absolutely nailed it.”
It’s what the dogs did next that deviated from the script:
With their ring-bearing job complete, Donny and Rio then made a beeline to a nearby pond.
“We had an inkling that a spontaneous swim might be on the cards, but that was a risk Tom and Carina were willing to take,” Happy Hounds said.
Fortunately, the pet attendants had brought plenty of towels just in case, and Donny and Rio were freshened up after their swim.
“In the end, it made for a lot of laughter and a very memorable day,” Happy Hounds said. “Donny and Rio were very pleased with themselves, and their pet parents thought it was hilarious and very much in keeping with their boys’ personalities.”
