A few weeks ago, in the wee hours of the night, San Antonio Animal Care Services (San Antonio ACS) got a call about a dog someone had found outside of a local Starbucks. The rescuers didn’t get many details
from the Good Samaritan who’d called in about the pup, but they rushed to the scene right away.
When the rescuers arrived at the Starbucks, they discovered a little senior poodle perched on top of one of the coffee shop’s tall patio chairs.
“It was really mysterious,” Lisa Norwood, public relations manager for San Antonio ACS, told The Dodo. “Someone had to have placed him there.”
Whoever had alerted San Antonio ACS about the dog was no longer there. It was so early that the Starbucks wasn’t even open yet, so the animal care officers weren’t able to get any answers as to how the dog ended up on the patio.
“Who knows what happened between it getting dark and 4 a.m. when we came upon this little white, scruffy-looking dog,” Norwood said.
At some point, someone had placed a Starbucks-branded cup of water on the chair for the dog to drink, which suggested that the pup may have been there since the store had closed or at least for several hours.
Regardless of how the dog had ended up at the Starbucks or how long he’d been sitting there, the animal care officers knew he needed help right away. They rushed him to an emergency vet, who conducted a thorough examination.
Luckily, the dog, nicknamed Frappe by his rescuers, didn’t have any injuries. He was just a tired senior pup, who’d been trying his best to survive outside. Frappe returned to San Antonio ACS’ facility, where he was able to relax and recover.
A few days later, the San Antonio ACS staff got a call from a family, who explained that Frappe was their missing dog. They’d been desperately searching for him, and when they saw the shelter had him, they were incredibly relieved.
“They had been missing their dog for a while,” Norwood said.
The dog’s family rushed to the shelter to pick up their dog and revealed to the staff that his name was actually Duke. Everyone was overjoyed that after everything Duke had been through, he was finally back with the people who love him.
“They were over the moon,” Norwood said.
