A beachgoer was out for a walk along the shore in Hampshire, England, when they spotted something moving among some rocks. They took a closer look and discovered that it was a swan, and he was hopelessly trapped.
The Good Samaritan immediately called the
RSPCA for help, and Inspector Jo Story rushed out to the beach to assist.
“The poor swan had been blown into the rocks by the high winds that battered the south coast during Storm Austen,” Story said in a press release. “He’d somehow got trapped in a small gap in a cluster of large rocks and couldn’t get himself out.”
There was no way the swan would be able to free himself, so Story carefully climbed down into the rocks to help him. She grabbed hold of the swan and was able to gently maneuver him out of his predicament. She then wrapped him in a towel and carried him out to safety.
Story drove the swan to Wildlife in Need where he received a full checkup. The rescue kept the swan for five nights for observation to make sure he was completely OK, and once he received a clean bill of health, he was cleared to be released.
Story went back to collect the swan, and the rescue came full circle when she was the one to release him into the wild again. She took him to a local waterfront where other swans lived, wished him well and sent him off.
“It’s always so lovely to see them fit, healthy and heading back into the wild where they belong," Story said.
