There’s something special about being the one who doesn’t quite fit in with the crowd. Just ask Benji, an adoptable dog whose icy blue eyes and uniquely shaped face instantly set him apart from his fellow shelter residents.
“[H]e doesn’t quite look like
the other puppies,” Colorado Puppy Rescue (CPR) wrote on Facebook.
From the neck down, Benji is indistinguishable from any other husky and shepherd-mix; his tan coat and white paws blend in with the rest of the pack. But his face has a slight tilt to it, with his nose pointing to the right and his bottom jaw jutting out to the left.
“Benji has something called a ‘wry bite.’ Basically, his jaw is asymmetrical,” CPR wrote. “In other words, he’s extra adorable.”
Benji’s asymmetrical jaw gives him a one-of-a-kind look that only makes him that much cuter. As some see it, his face is more like a work of art.
“He is a living Picasso painting,” Monique Fair commented on Facebook.
While most people who meet Benji are surprised by his distinctive face, the sweet boy was born this way and has never known any different. He is just as happy and carefree as most puppies his age.
But his friends at CPR want to make sure he’s as comfortable as possible before placing him for adoption. So they scheduled a vet appointment to remove a few teeth that could potentially cause him trouble in the future.
“By then, his bite won’t be a problem anymore — it’ll just be one of the things that makes Benji unmistakably Benji,” CPR wrote. “And honestly? This boy is so much more than his unique face.”
Everyone who meets Benji instantly falls for him, and it’s not just because of his endearing crooked smile. He’s just as smart as he is sweet, with a knack for befriending other dogs, cats and kids alike.
“Benji is a truly great dog,” CPR wrote. “He’s just a happy little puppy who wants to love life and everyone in it.”
The adorable boy is currently in foster care, and he’s flourished thanks to the constant love and attention he now receives.
“Benji’s fosters take him everywhere, and that has helped this once-terrified puppy blossom into quite the social butterfly,” CPR wrote. “His confidence has grown tremendously.”
Benji’s time in foster care has been transformative for the resilient pup, and his caregivers are confident that he’ll continue to thrive once he’s adopted. They can’t wait to see what the future holds for Benji, even beyond finding a perfect forever home.
“[H]e loves giving affection just as much as he loves receiving it,” CPR wrote. “And because of his unique look, gentle personality, willingness to please and love for people, his fosters think Benji could even make an incredible therapy dog someday.”
As of now, Benji is still available for adoption and hopes to land a family who loves him unconditionally. With everything he’s overcome in such a short amount of time, his friends at CPR are confident that the sweet boy has a bright future ahead.
“Benji came to us as a scared little puppy,” CPR wrote. “Now, he’s a confident, affectionate, goofy little guy who is finally ready for the part of his story we’ve been waiting for: finding his people.”
