Last week, the folks at NSPCA Animal Rescue in Ireland received a distressing call for help. A Good Samaritan in Rush, County Dublin, had heard tiny cries coming from a stone wall outside, and they followed the noise to find a full-grown white cat wedged
in a deep crevice.
It seemed as though the cat had slipped through a small gap between two stone walls, becoming impossibly wedged near the bottom. The poor girl couldn’t move; she could only cry out in between exhausted breaths, hoping help would arrive.
Thankfully, the NSPCA’s Dublin team responded quickly to help the desperate cat. When they got there, they noticed just how anxious the poor girl, whom they named Marge, was.
“She was extremely stressed,” NSPCA wrote on Instagram. “NSPCA inspectors worked quickly to get her out.”
The team of rescuers, also called inspectors, got straight to work trying to reach Marge at the bottom of the crevice. The space between the stone walls was extremely tight, and they struggled to grasp the cat at first. But after some careful maneuvering, the team was able to grab hold of her and gently lift her out of the crack without causing any more harm.
“There were some tricky moments, but thankfully, she was rescued with only a few minor scratches to both her and the inspectors,” NSPCA wrote.
The team was relieved when they finally had Marge in their arms. And the sweet girl, although clearly shocked from the ordeal, couldn’t have been more grateful for their help.
“After such a frightening ordeal, [she] was shocked and confused, but we have no doubt she will feel much better in a few days time,” NSPCA wrote on Facebook.
They soon shuttled Marge back to NSPCA’s headquarters, where they gave her a thorough checkup. Thankfully, the cat was overall OK, and just had a few scratches on her face from the rescue effort. The team also found that she had a microchip, although it was unfortunately unregistered.
Still, the folks at NSPCA were determined to find Marge’s original owner. They got her settled in for the night, then posted her rescue story on social media. It wasn’t long before they received a message from a woman named Laura who recognized the cat.
“Hi, this is my cat, her name is Snowy,” Laura wrote in an Instagram comment. “[T]hank you so much for rescuing her.”

The team was overjoyed to have found the cat’s family. After saving her from such a precarious situation, seeing her finally reunite with her loved ones was the best outcome they could’ve asked for. And to make it even better, they were able to register Snowy’s microchip in case she ever gets lost again.
It’s been over a week since Snowy’s rescue, and the sweet girl is finally back home, where she belongs. She now spends her days snuggled up alongside her beloved family members, who are so relieved to have her back.
And while she may dream of going on another big adventure outside, her family is making sure that she remains safely inside with the people and pups who love her the most.
“Her best friends, Alfie and Milo the dogs, have been missing her terribly and [couldn’t] wait to welcome her home,” NSPCA said.
