A Good Samaritan in a Texas neighborhood was going about her day when she noticed a pile of trash outside a house that had recently been vacated. The pile was filled with things the family had left behind, and pacing next to it was a tiny dog.
The dog,
later named Treasure, stayed close to the pile, seemingly waiting for her family to come back for her. She was in rough shape and looked like she’d been neglected. The Good Samaritan decided to call for help, and Tzu Zoo Rescue soon stepped up.
“We named her Treasure, as she most certainly was treated like trash,” Tzu Zoo Rescue wrote on Facebook.
Paula, a volunteer with Tzu Zoo Rescue, arrived at the house to collect Treasure, who was nervous but ready to be rescued and loved.
“She was sweet on approach but a little timid,” Paula told The Dodo.
Treasure was taken straight to the vet and treated for flea dermatitis, which had caused her to lose some of her fur. Paula then took her home to foster her, and the sweet pup has already begun to thrive.
“She is doing great in my home,” Paula said. “She is only about a year old and loves her human. She gets a little upset if we leave her, but that is understandable given her past.”
Her fur is growing back now, and she’s gaining confidence every day. Her foster family is showing her all of the love she never got before but always deserved.
Poor Treasure was heartbroken when her family left her behind. Now she’s safe, loved and excited to eventually find her forever home.
