A council worker was cutting the grass at a community center in Risca, Wales, when he noticed a discarded shopping bag sitting by the basketball court. He wasn’t sure what to think — until he saw a tiny head poking out.
The worker rushed over to the bag
and pulled out a 3-month-old kitten, confused and covered in fleas. There was a small amount of food inside the bag with her, as well as a fluffy blanket. There was no one around, and the worker had no idea where she’d come from.
Without hesitation, the worker scooped the kitten up and brought her home with him before rushing her to the vet for a full checkup.
“Fortunately, it appears she was found in good time to be treated for minor ailments,” Sophie Daniels, an inspector with the RSPCA, said in a press release.
The kitten appeared to be a healthy weight and only had a few health issues that needed to be addressed. Unfortunately, she wasn’t microchipped, so her rescuers may never know why she was abandoned.
While her rescuers were glad she was left with food and a blanket, abandoning an animal, especially in the summer heat, is never the answer. Thankfully she was found when she was, or the situation could have ended up looking much different.
The kitten is now safely in the care of the RSPCA thanks to the kind council worker who refused to leave her alone.
“We would urge anyone struggling to care for their pets to seek help before considering abandoning them like this,” Daniels said.
