In the quaint town of Laguna Larga, Argentina, just about everyone has had the pleasure of meeting Morcilla, a sweet and chubby black dog who spends his days hanging out near the local market.
“That area
is a busy spot, and everyone there gives him plenty of affection and food,” Mati Chamorro, a former resident, told The Dodo.
One day, however, while driving near the market, Chamorro feared something had gone very wrong. He spotted Morcilla belly-up on the sidewalk, appearing lifeless, as if he was involved in an accident.
“I hit the brakes and went over to check on him,” Chamorro said.
But what began as concern ended with a smile:
Morcilla, it turns out, was simply napping in the sun. Still, Chamorro is glad he stopped to check.
“I believe that anyone who sees an animal in distress ought to step in and help,” Chamorro said. “Sometimes, you end up getting a pleasant surprise just like this one!”
Chamorro, who lives in a neighboring town, still sees Morcilla occasionally. But his friends are sure to keep him updated with their sightings:
The chubby dog, simply by napping — and by being his lovable self — has endeared himself to the entire community.
“He’s a stray, technically,” Chamorro said. “But he’s very well looked after.”
