While photographing a beach wedding in the Florida Keys recently, Sydney Breland had a career first: as the couple exchanged vows at the altar, surrounded by several floral arrangements, an unexpected visitor appeared. Her name was Rosey, and she was one
of many protected deer on the island.
Breland had heard that there were many deer on Little Palm Island, and she’d even seen a few while snapping pictures of the wedding festivities throughout the day. But she was shocked when Rosey decided to walk up and join them once the wedding began.
“[I]t wasn’t until the ceremony that she made her debut,” Breland told The Dodo.
At first, Breland and the guests assumed the deer would just pass through the ceremony, on her way to more important tasks. But to their surprise, she stopped right at the altar and began munching on the beautiful flowers surrounding the couple.
The deer’s impromptu arrival left everyone smiling. And while some people might be mortified by the thought of stealing someone’s wedding spotlight, Rosey was completely carefree.
“The flowers were definitely what drew her to us, but she was so confident and cute as she snacked on them throughout the entirety of the ceremony,” Breland said.

Breland continued taking pictures of the event as Rosey enjoyed her snack. It had already been a beautiful day, and Rosey’s presence made it even more memorable.
“[I]t made for the cutest and sweetest photos ever,” Breland said. “Estella, the bride, has such a soft spirit and princess vibe about her, so this was even more fitting for her wedding day.”
The audience erupted in cheers as the ceremony ended, and the happily wedded couple floated down the aisle again with their new friend in the background. The sweet girl was still enjoying her meal, and she was in no rush to leave.
“Rosey even stuck around after for their portraits, and we were able to capture her in the background!” Breland said. “Everyone was thrilled that she became an unexpected guest! She even fit right in with their color scheme!”

After a while, Rosey felt satisfied with her snack and roamed off to another part of the beach while the rest of the wedding party celebrated. She didn’t come back for the rest of the evening, but her presence was surely missed by everyone. Especially Breland, who’s still smiling over this unexpected event.
“I have never had anything like this happen, and it was so fun,” Breland said. “I love documenting unique moments, and this was just such an adorable one!”
