The other day, Erika Ashley Ann noticed her dog, Tucker, was acting a bit strangely. He is typically a very active and adventurous pup, but something was stopping him in his tracks.
Every time Erika would let Tucker outside onto their balcony at home in
Canada, he seemed to become fixated on one portion of the decking.
“I happened to notice that he was lying in a very specific spot on my balcony and would frequently peek between the boards,” Erika told The Dodo. “Bull terriers are very clownish but curious dogs.”
There didn’t appear to be anything noteworthy on the balcony to attract all that attention from Tucker.
But Tucker was onto something. After he continued returning to that exact spot, Erika decided to take a closer look herself.
And what she found was a little family living beneath the boards.
“I knew a robin had built a nest, but the batch of babies I was aware of from last month had left the nest,” Erika said. “I didn't realize she had more, but Tucker seemed to know and was keeping a close eye on them. Now that they're chirping, he wants to be outside and peeks at them through the deck boards.”
Tucker, evidently, is a little bird-watcher at heart.
It won’t be long before the baby robins are ready to leave the nest, but Tucker is soaking up every moment that he can.
“He continues going out on the balcony to visit his tiny neighbors,” Erika said. “He is a sweetheart.”
