Recently, Dasha Doronicheva and a few friends decided to take a kayaking trip down the Ugra River in Russia. The tranquil waterway weaves through the countryside, past patches of forest and farmland.
Little did the group know starting out, however, that
this would soon be the setting of a heartwarming reunion.
Along one stretch of the river, Doronicheva and her friends spotted some animals just off the grassy shore.
“We were floating along, chatting, enjoying the views, and after a couple of hours, we noticed a grazing herd of cows, and among them there was one bleating sheep,” Doronicheva said.
The sheep was calling out, but no one was sure why.
After paddling a ways further down the river, the group spotted something else on the shore.
“We notice a little black speck, darting from side to side, crying,” Doronicheva said.
Moving in closer, the group realized it was a black baby lamb — and their thoughts immediately turned to the bleating sheep they’d seen earlier.
"At that moment, the decision was made to save him," Doronicheva said.
So, the group pulled to shore to carry the baby back to his worried mother.
Approaching the spot where the sheep and cows had been seen grazing, Doronicheva then placed the little black lamb on the ground.
And moments later, the reunion she'd hoped for finally happened.
Doronicheva couldn’t help but shed tears of joy:
“There is so much love in this moment as they rush toward each other,” Doronicheva said.
Thanks to the kindness and compassion of the group that day, a little family was reunited. It’s something Doronicheva is unlikely to forget.
“It's a great joy that we were able to help,” Doronicheva told The Dodo. "A small good deed."
