For years now, Kayla Adkins has been rescuing animals in need whenever she comes across them. So, last week, when she spotted what appeared to be a wounded squirrel in a field near her home, she didn’t hesitate to act.
“I watched it for a minute and noticed
it hadn’t moved at all,” Adkins told The Dodo. “I am a complete animal lover, so I’m constantly keeping my eyes open for animals everywhere I go.”
When the "squirrel" still hadn't moved, Adkins walked over for a closer look. That's when she realized the truth:
“I was about 97% sure that it was a squirrel,” Adkins said.
But she was wrong.
It was just a piece of errant fabric that, admittedly, looked very much like a squirrel from afar.
“I found the whole situation to be super funny, but I was also glad that it wasn’t an injured animal,” Adkins said. "That is never a fun situation, but I always check just in case.”
And for that, real squirrels in Adkins’ town have reason to be grateful.
