A Good Samaritan was out for a walk one morning in early September when she spotted a dog standing alone next to a brick wall. The pup was standing guard next to a backpack, and the Good Samaritan quickly realized there was someone inside.
The dog was
tethered to the backpack that had a cat inside, waiting for someone to notice them. The pair had been abandoned across from Charlesworth Veterinary Surgery in Clay Cross in the UK, suggesting that whoever had abandoned them was hoping to get them help. The poor dog was in really bad condition and needed medical care as soon as possible.
After the Good Samaritan called for help, the duo were taken to RSPCA’s Chesterfield and North Derbyshire Branch. The dog had a microchip that said her name was Angel but had no other information listed. She had overgrown nails, missing fur, cloudy eyes, fleas and a mass on her abdomen. Angel’s cat friend was not microchipped and was luckily in much better condition, with no obvious issues other than being a little scared.
Angel was so sick that the team worried she might not make it, but as soon as she started getting care, she perked right up and proved just how strong she was.
“She was bright and alert, and thankfully we were able to get her the urgent veterinary treatment she needed,” Ben Massey, an animal rescue officer with the RSPCA, said in a press release. “It’s incredibly worrying that these two animals were just dumped outside with no food, water or shelter, especially with Angel in such poor health.”
The RSPCA is now searching for whoever may have abandoned these pets and is asking for anyone with information to please step forward.
Angel was prescribed antibiotics and underwent surgery to remove the mass on her abdomen. She’s recovering well, and both she and her cat friend will be put up for adoption once they’ve fully recovered from their ordeal.
