When Hiền and her husband arrived at a quaint Airbnb in the mountains of Port Angeles, Washington, they were excited to find beautiful views and a cozy guest house to rest in between adventures. They had no idea there was a fluffy stranger already waiting
to spend the entire weekend with them.
It all started when the couple pulled up to the property and suddenly saw an excited yellow Lab come barreling towards them. The dog, whom they later learned was named Pearl, ran to the couple as if she’d been expecting them. They were slightly confused at first, until they found her mentioned in the booklet for guests inside.
“‘Don’t be surprised if a Lab is too friendly with you,'” the booklet read, as Hiền told The Dodo. “‘She’s the host’s dog who loves visitors.’”
It didn’t take long to confirm the booklet’s claims about Pearl. The sweet pup was enamored with her new friends and was soon begging them to play.
“Pearl warmed up to me instantly, like she’s known me for the longest time,” Hiền said. “She immediately nibbled on my hand, and she kept putting her booty against me for pets. She would run around and bring me a firewood log from the bonfire pit and run around me to play with her.”
Hiền and Pearl had a great time playing together that night. But the most heartfelt moment was when Hiền went to bed and woke up the next morning to find that Pearl had not strayed far away at all.
“Every time I needed to go inside the Airbnb to do something, she would wait outside my door the entire time I was inside,” Hiền said. “She was the first one to greet me at 6:30 a.m. the next day … she knew her sad face would get us outside playing with her.”

Luckily for Pearl, the couple was more than happy to play with her. And she had a blast showing them all her favorite things to do on the property.
“She would run around and bring me a firewood log from the bonfire pit and run around me to play with her,” Hiền said. “[She] had the zoomies.”

Pearl couldn’t get enough of her new tenants. And thankfully, they felt exactly the same way about her.
“I instantly fell head over heels with Pearl,” Hiền said. “[She] made the experience of staying at the beautiful Airbnb even more enjoyable. The silliness, the loyalty and the way she roamed around the big space they had, it made my experience staying in a remote cabin sooo much better.”
Sadly, their time together couldn’t last forever, and the couple soon found themselves packing up their things at the end of their stay. They were saddened to have to leave such a beautiful place, but nothing was more heartbreaking than having to say goodbye to Pearl.
“We were devastated …” Hiền said. “She followed us to our car. She even went on my side of the car door and watched us back out the car. It was the saddest moment of my entire trip!”
Pearl was equally as sad to bid farewell to her new friends, but she was used to the routine. She soon returned to her comfy bed in the main house and patiently waited for the next guests to arrive.
Hiền and her husband haven’t returned to the Airbnb yet, but they really miss the sweet girl and would love to see her again in the future.
“I really miss Pearl,” Hiền said.
