Earlier this month, Galina Ruban was enjoying a day of boating with several companions in an inlet in Jupiter, Florida, when the group noticed an animal in the water. Judging from the furry nose peeking from the surface, they thought at first that it must
be an otter.
Then they saw the animal’s long ears. It was a rabbit, swimming far from shore.
“He was in the middle of the inlet,” Ruban later wrote
.Ruban, a video producer and founder of GeGe Productions, captured footage of what happened next:
It’s unclear how the rabbit came to be in the water so far from shore, though some have speculated that he may have fallen from the grasp of a bird of prey.
Whatever the case, Ruban and her friends worried that he wouldn’t be able to make it out — so they gave him a free ride to dry ground.
"So we saved the little guy," Ruban wrote, adding: “I think we got there just in time.”
