Last month, Priscilla Wolcott, an animal control officer at Fresno Humane Animal Services, got a call about a stray dog who’d been living under someone’s house. The caller told Wolcott that the pup was “aggressive,” so she was a bit apprehensive as she approached
the property.
When Wolcott arrived, though, she found that the dog didn’t seem aggressive at all.
“She wasn’t growling or showing her teeth,” Wolcott told The Dodo. “[She] was just laying in the dirt right there along the house.”
As Wolcott walked up to the dog and started talking to her, she saw a tiny white puppy pop her head out from the bottom of the house. Soon after, another little puppy followed behind. Both babies ran up to Wolcott and rolled over for belly rubs immediately.
“The ‘aggressive’ comment was starting to make sense because moms can be protective,” Wolcott said. “So that could have easily been misconstrued as her being aggressive when she was just protecting her puppies.”
Wolcott couldn’t believe how adorable and friendly the puppies were. The mama had clearly been taking good care of them — even though they’d all been living outside for weeks, the puppies were chunky and well-fed.
“They’re the cutest little fluff balls,” Wolcott said.
Although Wolcott had only come prepared to pick up the mama dog, she was able to quickly shift gears. She coaxed all of the dogs into a crate and transported them back to Fresno Humane Animal Services.
“I was thinking I was going to pick up one,” Wolcott said. “I ended up picking up three.”
The story of these three dogs serves as a great reminder to always call for help if you see a stray pup. It’s easy to assume that someone else has already reported them, but that isn’t always the case.
“[T]hey were out there for weeks, and we only had gotten one call for them,” Wolcott said.
With the help of her TikTok commenters, Wolcott named the mama dog Sky, the female puppy Cloudy and the male puppy Sunny. Sky quickly got adopted from Fresno Humane Animal Services, and Sunny and Cloudy were transferred to Animal Compassion Team.
While Cloudy has already gotten adopted, Sunny is still looking for a home. His adoption profile describes him as an “affectionate bundle of energy and goofiness — a true social butterfly who loves playtime and snuggles in equal measure.” In other words, he would make a great addition to any household.
Because Sunny is so sweet and adorable, there’s no doubt he’ll get adopted soon. Then, all three of the pups Wolcott rescued will get to enjoy settling in with their forever families.
