Serafina and her siblings arrived at a rural shelter when they were just puppies, and after being there for too long, they ended up on the euthanasia list. Luckily, STAB Rescue in North Carolina stepped in and brought the trio to safety, hoping to give
them all a second chance.
Serafina’s sister was recently adopted and her brother’s adoption is pending. The rescue hoped that Serafina would soon find her happy ending, too — until they noticed she was starting to walk a little funny.
The rescue brought Serafina to the vet, where they discovered the poor pup had major hip issues and was going to need surgery. After already going through so much, poor Serafina just couldn’t catch a break. The surgery was going to be incredibly expensive, so the rescue posted a plea on social media, hoping for even just a little bit of help.
“We had hoped to be able to fundraise a decent amount as we have a tremendous [supportive] following,” Alexis Ketover, assistant director of STAB Rescue, told The Dodo.
Not long after the rescue posted about Serafina’s plight, a woman in Virginia saw it and immediately felt connected to the pup. She was engaged and planning a wedding and had found a $2,000 wedding dress she was in love with. The moment she saw Serafina, though, she knew she had to help.
The bride called up her fiancé and told him she was going to forgo the $2,000 dress, and instead wanted to use that money to pay for Serafina’s surgery.
“She did not even contact us directly,” Ketover said. “She called the clinic off of the estimate [we posted] and spoke to them and took care of it. The vet called me and I started to cry.”
Serafina’s surgery is now scheduled for a few weeks from now. She’s currently resting in her foster home, being spoiled and showered with love and care. Her pain will soon be behind her, all because of a selfless bride who wanted to help.
Once Serafina has healed from her surgery, she’ll be able to begin the search for her forever home. In the meantime, she’s getting all the help she needs while the rescue marvels at just how kind people can be.
“People are as blown away as we are,” Ketover said. “I have seen comments about this restoring people's faith in humanity and how this couple literally are angels.”
