In early October, Kelly Holland was busy getting ready for the opening of her new cat cafe and vintage store, Cat’s Meow. She wasn’t planning on being at the store that day but ended up needing to stop by, and that’s how she discovered a tiny kitten abandoned
just outside.
The kitten was curled up in a towel underneath the shop window, dirty, weak and alone. It seemed he’d likely been there for a few hours, waiting for someone to notice him. Cat’s Meow doesn’t open officially until October 23, so there was no guarantee that anyone was going to be there. Somehow though, Holland arrived just in time.
“We weren’t supposed to be there,” Cat’s Meow wrote on Instagram. “But we were.”
In addition to being the owner of the shop, Holland also owns The Animal Rescue Alliance, so she knew exactly what to do. She scooped up the kitten, who was so sick he barely reacted, and took him into her care. She named him Meowzer after the shop, the very first rescue of her new joint business endeavor.
“Cat’s Meow hasn’t even opened its doors yet, and tonight this tiny kitten was left on our doorstep,” Cat’s Meow wrote.
Meowzer was taken to the vet the next morning and given all the care and attention he needed. The poor kitten was hungry and underweight, but he’s now healing well in the care of his new friends.
Once Cat’s Meow opens, the cafe will partner with The Animal Rescue Alliance to continue to help animals in need. The mission wasn’t supposed to start so soon, but Holland stepped up anyway.
“When funds allow, we’ll also be installing a security system at Cat’s Meow so our storefront can be monitored for exactly this reason,” Cat’s Meow wrote. “We can’t stop people from abandoning animals, but we can do everything possible to make sure one is never left outside unnoticed.”
Meowzer is doing better and better each day thanks to Holland and Cat’s Meow, and will eventually be ready to find his forever home.
