Every day, Patricia parks her car in a multi-level parking garage near her office. It serves workers at local businesses, shoppers and residents of a nearby apartment building. But as Patricia recently
discovered, they're not the only ones using the structure.
The other day, Patricia had to park on a higher level than usual. As she searched for an open space, one spot covered in handmade signs immediately caught her attention.
Curious, she went to investigate.
As Patricia soon discovered, a pigeon had made the parking space home, building a nest consisting of little more than a few twigs scattered on the ground.
But it was nevertheless dear to the little bird, who had laid an egg there. Clearly, someone else agreed.
Handwritten signs placed there by a concerned Good Samaritan warned potential parkers that the spot was taken.
“I found it very sweet,” Patricia told The Dodo. “It shows a side of humanity and empathy that is hard to come by in recent times.”
Within the protected spot were the remnants of a single eggshell, which appeared to have been left behind some time earlier — suggesting the chick had likely already hatched and left the nest.
Pigeons often return to successful nesting sites. Thanks to one stranger's thoughtful gesture, this unlikely parking space became a safe place to raise a family.
