This week, Abby Ehlert and her colleagues were working at the Park Supply Company in Athens, Alabama, when a furry visitor appeared outside the front door.
“We were just sitting here where we always are, and he just walked up,” Ehlert told The Dodo. “We were surprised
that he came right up to the front doors here, almost like he was looking for someone.”
As the employees got closer, they realized the visitor was a young raccoon with a clear plastic jar stuck over his head. He pawed at the glass door.
“We all ran up to the door,” Ehlert said. “That’s what led to [my coworkers Amber and Chad] running outside to help him get the jar off his head.”
After Amber and Chad removed the jar, the raccoon headed toward the road and into a drainage ditch.
“So we were happy to at least get that jar off his head, and he kind of took off after that,” Ehlert said. “We think he then scurried through the little tunnel that takes him down the rest of the road. So as far as we've seen, he made it off somewhere safely.”
It had been a different sort of “customer” than Ehlert and her colleagues typically receive, but they were pleased to assist him regardless.
“It absolutely made our day,” Ehlert said. “It was a very eventful afternoon.”
