Things have a funny way of disappearing from the front yard of Robin Pierce Draper’s home in upstate New York. Though she takes great care to keep the property neatly decorated with flowers and planters, her arrangements rarely last long.
Draper has a thieving
neighbor who makes sure of that.
In her latest attempt to beautify the property, Draper set out a bouquet of artificial flowers in one of her flamingo-shaped pots out front. But her effort at decorating didn’t go unnoticed.
Before long, Draper looked out her window and caught the thief red-handed:
Turns out, Draper shares her property with a local groundhog, who has a tendency to claim other people’s belongings as his own.
“He lives under our shed,” Draper told The Dodo. “I’ll recover the artificial flowers, [but] he did take more things.”
Some little American flags Draper had planned to place out front? “[I] forgot about them, and the next day I went to get them, and they were gone,” Draper said.
That crime wasn’t witnessed — but Draper still has a prime suspect.
Draper seems to have accepted the occasional disruptions caused by her groundhog neighbor. She continues to try to keep her yard looking nice — even if the resident living beneath her shed has decorating ideas of his own.
