When Audray Luck of Luck’s Rescue noticed a cat wandering near her home, she immediately knew something was wrong. Luck could tell by her hanging belly that the timid stray was a new mother.
But where were her kittens?
Luck left food and water for the cat
and began tracking her movements around the neighborhood. Eventually, she spotted something interesting.
“I saw her sitting outside of an abandoned building,” Luck said in a video for The Dodo. “I just knew that her kittens were inside.”
Luck cautiously entered the space and noticed movement behind an old toilet. There, huddled in a pile of dirt, were all of the kittens.
The rescuer grabbed each kitten and loaded them into a crate. Now she just had to trap their mom.
After a few failed attempts, Luck got creative. She played a video of kitten crying noises on her phone and placed the phone inside the cat trap. Thirty minutes later, Mama was safe inside.

Luck took the whole family back home and made them a comfortable space to relax.
The rescuer is in awe of this mother cat, who did everything she could to keep her babies safe.
“Her resilience, her dedication and her love for her babies is so admirable,” Luck wrote in an Instagram post.
Luck feels bonded to this cat family, and she knows the rescue was fate.
“When she first showed up at my house, I knew it was for a reason,” Luck wrote. “And that reason was to save her babies and her."
