It was a typical Saturday evening in Dallas, Texas, last weekend when a call for help rang through the city’s emergency services department. On the other end was a Dallas animal control officer, who’d just made a startling discovery beneath a busy highway overpass.
“[They] located a dog stranded on top of a pillar underneath a bridge at Topeka Ave.,” Dallas Animal Services (DAS) wrote on Instagram.
The officer couldn’t believe their eyes. While cars zipped beneath the bridge, a frightened dog was perched on a column tens of feet off the ground. And she seemed impossible to reach at first.
“While [she] thankfully did not appear to be in distress, the location was extremely difficult to access,” DAS wrote.
The dog, later named Trinity, remained calm
given the circumstances. She watched quietly as the animal control officer attempted to reach her, to no avail. That’s when the rescuer decided to call for backup.
The animal control officer dialed 911 and waited a few minutes before Dallas Fire-Rescue (DFR) responders arrived. Luckily, the fire department had the necessary equipment to reach Trinity in her towering hideout.
“Despite initial beliefs that the area was inaccessible, a ladder truck was used to access the location …” DFR wrote on Facebook.
After hoisting themselves onto the concrete beams via the extendible ladder, the firefighters snagged Trinity with a net, then placed her on a stretcher and lowered her back to ground level. A wave of relief washed over the firefighters and the animal control officer when Trinity’s feet finally touched the pavement.

It’s unclear exactly how Trinity ended up in the pillars of a highway overpass or how long she spent up there on her own. What DAS determined, however, was that Trinity was a stray who didn’t have a family looking for her.
But thankfully, Trinity was physically unharmed from her time hiding beneath the overpass. And with a lovable personality that only became more playful as the days passed, she was a perfect candidate for adoption.
Trinity’s currently at DAS waiting for the perfect family to take her home. While she loves playing with her friends at the shelter, her biggest wish is to have a home of her own one day.
The folks at DAS are confident that Trinity’s dream will come true sometime soon. Until then, they’ll keep showering the girl with love and reminding her that she was, and still is, one of the bravest girls they’ve ever known.
