Nicole and her husband had just moved into a new neighborhood with their dog, Fia, when someone unexpected showed up. A dog they’d never seen before, whom they later learned was named Pita, ran right up to their door to welcome them.
“[W]e really didn’t
know anyone,” Nicole told The Dodo in a recent video. “Pita was actually the first one to greet us in our new home. We let her in.”
Pita sauntered happily into Nicole’s home and approached Fia face-to-face. The pups were total strangers to each other, but they had an undeniable connection from the very first moment they met.
“[T]hey became instant best friends,” Nicole said. “And of course, this meant we got to meet our neighbors as well.”
Nicole soon learned that Pita lived right next door and had easy access to their yard from hers, which the friendly pup began utilizing more. She started popping over for random visits each day and physically tapping the front door with her paws to get Nicole’s attention.
“As she would go on walks with her dad, she started walking up to our front door and knocking on it,” Nicole said.
Pita’s visits soon became a routine part of everyone’s days. And Fia, especially, couldn’t get enough of her playful new neighbor.
“Anytime Pita went home, Fia would look out the window,” Nicole said.
Pita and Fia developed an unshakable bond over a short period of time. Their impromptu play sessions quickly became their favorite part of the day, made only better when other pups in the community started to join.
“Pita and Fia started making friends with every dog in the neighborhood,” Nicole said. “And Pita taught those dogs how to trigger our doorbell and knock as well.”
Just like Pita, the other neighborhood dogs learned how to demand playdates by running up to Nicole’s front door and knocking until invited inside. Then, the real fun would begin.
“We love to host dog block parties, and they love to play, wrestle, chase balls [and] play fetch,” Nicole said. “Our house has kind of become the cool place on the block, where all the dogs love to play.”

When Nicole and her family moved into their new home, they were excited to get to know their new neighbors. They had no idea that, thanks to sweet Pita, they would quickly develop long-lasting friendships with everyone around.
“Pita is the glue to the community. We’ve become close with all the dogs’ owners,” Nicole said.
