Craig Kelly was at a friend’s house in Kin Kin, a town in Australia, and had to use the restroom. He excused himself, found the bathroom and walked in — and quickly discovered it was already occupied.
On the wall next to the toilet paper was an enormous
huntsman spider, just hanging out. Rather than wait his turn, Kelly decided the more the merrier and sat down right next to the spider.
“I sat down on [the] toilet beside him and pulled paper off slowly, and he didn’t move,” Kelly told The Dodo.
While many people would have been a bit freaked out by the spider’s presence, Kelly wasn’t fazed in the least. He’s a spider-lover and often flicks sugar water onto the walls to help prevent his spider friends from getting dehydrated.
Huntsman spiders can drastically range in size, and their legs have the potential to grow up to a foot long. They favor warm to tropical climates and are not generally dangerous to humans, which is why many people choose to coexist rather than evict them from their homes.
“[I’ve] been learning how to care and nurture what some people refer to as their ‘house puppies,’” Kelly said.
The spider remained where he was the entire time Kelly was in the bathroom, and they both seemed to enjoy the company.
“He just hung out beside me ([I] don’t think spiders have our sense of smell),” Kelly said.
Once he was finished, Kelly went on his way, already looking forward to his next spider encounter.
