Halloween is a year-round affair at David Ellis’ house. For the past three years, he’s displayed a 12-foot skeleton in his yard, sometimes with a bony pet by its side.
But this October, Ellis spotted a new addition to the spooky scene.
It turns out that,
at some point in the past few months, hornets had constructed a papery nest inside the giant skeleton’s ribcage. It almost resembled a large, dark organ growing on the opposite side of the figure’s chest.
One commenter online likened it to "a dead heart."
“My 12’ skeleton made some friends!” Ellis wrote.
It’s unclear if the nest is still active, but the sight of it alone was enough to give one local resident, Zach Piazza, the heebie-jeebies when he walked by.
“I thought it was weird enough that something was in the skeleton’s chest, then I saw it was a hornets’ nest,” Piazza told The Dodo.
Piazza, a drummer in the doom-jazz band BLK LDG, thought the nest could make a cool album cover.
“It was pretty badass,” he said.
