Leaders of Black-led giving circles from across the Carolinas are gathering in Charlotte to celebrate Black Philanthropy Month. The event, CircleUp Carolinas, will take place at the Charlotte Museum of History and feature the multimedia exhibit 'Giving Back: The Soul of Philanthropy Reframed and Exhibited.' This exhibit highlights cultural values and traditions in Black philanthropy through stories, photographs, and interactive displays. Black communities contribute an estimated $11 billion annually to charitable causes, donating a higher proportion of their wealth than other racial groups. The rise of giving circles, which pool resources to fund valued causes, reflects this tradition, with 77 percent of such circles being identity-based. Notable participants include Tracey Greene-Washington, founder of CoThinkk, and Ilyasah N. Shabazz, senior operations and communications director at Philanthropy Together.
