Ordovician Beach Resort has opened on Isla Grande within Portobelo National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The resort, featuring 47 rooms, blends elevated design with environmental sustainability and community commitment. Previously known as Bananas Village Resort, it was reimagined by Rick and Loan Hill, who transitioned from tech careers to hospitality. The resort was built using 95 percent local labor, employing over 300 full-time staff during construction. It offers private beach access, overwater bungalows, and curated day trips to nearby islands. The resort includes a garden-to-table culinary program led by Executive Chef Stiven Hernandez, with more than 90 percent of produce grown on-site. Dining venues include The Shell Bistro, El Acuario, and Rick's Café Americain. Wellness offerings include cryotherapy, an overwater yoga studio, and personalized spa treatments. A dive center specializing in warm-water dives will open in September 2025. The resort plans to launch a foundation to support education, infrastructure, and wellness initiatives in nearby communities.
