What is the story about?
Tehran has sent its demands from the US via Pakistan hours after the latter floated a peace proposal overnight to end the war in West Asia, Foreign Minister's Office of Iran told CNBC-TV18.
"We have compiled and formalised our own set of demands...A ceasefire risks becoming an opportunity for the opposing side to regroup and continue its actions," the office said.
The remarks come as the world awaits the US and Iran to respond to the peace proposal that reportedly includes a 45-day ceasefire before both sides agree to bring the conflict to a complete halt.
Pakistan has emerged as a key mediator in the ongoing war in West Asia, that has killed thousands in the past month.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had earlier proposed talks in Islamabad and has now sent leaders of the warring countries a proposal to end hostilities and reopen the Strait of Hormuz, according to Reuters and AP reports, citing sources, though Pakistan has not officially confirmed it.
Iran still believes that the US claims of having rescued its pilot in Isfahan could be a ruse. "The possibility that the “pilot rescue in Isfahan” was a deceptive operation aimed at seizing Iran’s enriched uranium cannot be ignored," source from the office told CNBC-TV18.
The office also hinted at likelihood of some vessel movement in the Strait of Hormuz which Iran closed since the war broke out on February 28, thereby triggering a wave of energy crises across the world.
"Talks with Oman are focused on establishing a protocol to ensure safe passage of vessels through the Strait of Hormuz," the office said.
