NASA is gearing up for the Artemis II mission, which will send four astronauts on a 10-day journey around the Moon—the first human mission beyond low Earth orbit since 1972.

Unlike earlier missions, Artemis II will be a lunar flyby without landing, serving as a critical step toward a planned human Moon landing later this decade and signalling a new phase of sustained, globally collaborative lunar exploration.

The countdown for Artemis II is underway at Kennedy Space Center, as launch team members take their positions inside the Rocco Petrone Launch Control Center.  The mission marks the first crewed launch of Space Launch System and the Orion spacecraft.
