India and the United States are exploring cooperation across defence and critical minerals as Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri and Air Chief Marshal AP Singh visit the US to meet key officials.
Misri met US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor at the White House.
"Productive meeting with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio that focused on our bilateral relationship, especially trade, critical minerals, defense and the Quad," Gor said on X (formerly Twitter) after the meeting.
He added that Secretary Rubio is looking forward to visiting India next month.
India-US boosting energy, trade partnership
India is looking to increase its energy imports from the US as part of import diversification and to boost bilateral trade between the two nations.
Misri and India's Ambassador to the US Vinay Kwatra launched the India-USA Trade Facilitation Portal with the aim to move towards Mission 500, a goal set by India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the US President Donald Trump to more than double bilateral trade to $500 billion by 2030.

Virtually addressing the launch of the Portal, India's Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal termed it a forward-looking initiative that will enable direct engagement between Indian exporters & US importers and provide greater opportunities to deepen their bilateral trade partnership.
Gor's India-focused meetings
Sergio Gor also met US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington.
They discussed Landau's recent trip to the region and the future of commercial diplomacy in South and Central Asia, particularly in AI, emerging technology, infrastructure building, and critical minerals.
Gor said that Landau looks forward to returning to India, Uzbekistan, and Kazakhstan.
Gor also discussed public initiatives for Americans and the possibility of forging new partnerships in the South and Central Asian region with Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B Rogers at the State Department.

He also held a meeting with Under Secretary of State for Economic Affairs Jacob Helberg and discussed US-India energy cooperation, with a special focus on next steps on Pax Silica and securing supply chains for critical technologies.
India-US defence cooperation
India and the US are also exploring increased cooperation in the defence sector. Air Chief Marshal AP Singh visited the Peterson Space Force Base in the US.
"He interacted with General Gregory M Guillot (Commander US-NORTHCOM/NORAD) for a productive exchange of perspectives on complex operational modalities, reflecting the strength of the growing partnership," Indian Air Force (IAF) wrote on X.
