Three Indians arrested in Canada for shooting incident: What we know so far

Three Indian nationals were arrested in Surrey, British Columbia, on February 1, following a shooting incident in the coastal neighbourhood of Crescent Beach. In a statement, the Surrey Police Service (SPS) confirmed that the trio have now been formally charged under the country’s Criminal Code.

The accused individuals have been identified as Harjot Singh (21), Taranveer Singh (19), and Dayajeet Singh Billing (21).

According to the SPS, the arrests were made in the early hours of February 1, after they received information about shots being fired and a small fire outside a residence near Crescent Road and 132 Street.

SPS officers patrolling Surrey's Crescent Beach neighbourhood as part of Project Assurance rushed to the crime scene.

“On February 1, 2026, at approximately 3:50 am, Surrey Police Service (SPS) members assigned to Project Assurance, working in collaboration with SPS’s Major Crime Section, were patrolling in Surrey’s Crescent Beach neighbourhood when reports came in of shots fired and a small fire outside a residence near Crescent Road and 132 Street,”

the SPS said in a press release.

According to the official report, the three accused were intercepted and arrested shortly near 28 Avenue and 140 Street as they attempted to flee in a rideshare vehicle. The case was later taken over by the SPS's Major Crimes Section.

Each of the three accused has been charged with one count of discharging a firearm into a place contrary to section 244.2(1)(a) of the Criminal Code. As per the police, additional charges may be filed as investigators continue to analyse evidence and follow up on new leads.

All three individuals remain remanded in custody until February 5, 2026. Releasing the photos of the accused individuals, the SPS has appealed to the public to share information on this incident, including CCTV or dashcam footage.

"SPS hopes that the public release of images of Harjot Singh, Taranveer Singh, and Dayajeet Singh Billing prompts additional witnesses, victims, or associates to come forward with relevant information regarding the activities of one or more on the morning of or before February 1, 2026," it added.

This follows a similar incident on January 26, where two other Indian men, Harshdeep Singh and Hanspreet Singh, were arrested in another shooting episode in Surrey.
