X, formerly Twitter, went down across the globe on Friday in what appeared to be a major outage, disrupting access for thousands of users across the UK, the US and major Indian cities including Delhi, Mumbai and Kolkata.
Users reported that the Elon Musk-led platform’s website and mobile app failed to load, with many encountering blank screens or endless loading indicators. Outage tracking website Downdetector showed a sharp spike in reports around 3 pm in the UK, or 9 pm IST.

According to user reports,
multiple issues were experienced while accessing X. The most common problem involved the mobile app not loading properly. Website access was also impacted, with several users unable to open X on desktop browsers. Timeline-related issues were reported as well, with feeds failing to refresh or display new posts.
Some users said they were unable to post tweets or replies, while others reported being logged out unexpectedly and facing login failures when trying to re-enter their accounts. These issues appeared to affect both the app and web versions of the platform.
Data from Downdetector showed a steep surge in complaints, with reports crossing 65,000 within a short span after the outage began. Around 50% of users reported problems with the X app, 39% flagged website-related issues, and 11% complained about feed and timeline loading problems. Reports emerged simultaneously from multiple countries, pointing to a global outage.
As of writing, X has not issued an official statement acknowledging the outage or explaining its cause, and there is no confirmed timeline for service restoration.
