Trump emphasised that he listens, moving his hand to show he's paying attention. Offering a defence for closing his eyes, he said, “It’s boring as hell. I’m going around a room, and I’ve got 28 guys — the last one was three and a half hours. I have to sit back and listen, and I move my hand so that people will know I’m listening. I’m hearing every word, and I can’t wait to get out."
Trump's Cabinet meetings are known for their length, with the August meeting setting a record for his longest televised appearance, lasting three hours and seventeen minutes.

Trump falls asleep again during a meeting on live television. If Joe Biden had done this, the media would’ve
turned it into a week-long crisis. But with this clown, they shrug because he gives them the clicks that fatten their wallets. Total failures. https://t.co/f33xrg5e1e pic.twitter.com/thbH6GkZtO

Trump's comments came amid speculation about his health, with videos showing him appearing to doze off during White House events in November and December.
During a Cabinet meeting in December, he seemed to struggle to keep his eyes open while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick praised his tariff policies. He then appeared to blink slowly while Housing and Urban Development Secretary Scott Turner and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins spoke.
Trump even closed his eyes for 10-15 seconds at a time during Human Services Secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr.'s remarks.
The White House has denied these claims, with Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt stating that Trump was "listening attentively and running the entire three-hour marathon Cabinet meeting".
Several Trump officials have defended the president's health, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, who described Trump as ‘too healthy’ and ‘too active’. Col. James Jones, head of the White House's medical unit, also reported that Trump had ‘perfect’ results in an ‘MRI-like’ test.
Will Scharf, the White House staff secretary, defended President Trump's behaviour during a Cabinet meeting, saying he wasn't dozing off, but rather ‘thinking about something’ and adopting a pose. Scharf explained that Trump often leans back or forward, closes his eyes, or looks down while taking notes in his lap. Scharf emphasised Trump's remarkable work pace, stating he's "always awake, always alert, always knows what's going on".
Captain Sean Barbabella, his lead physician, and Colonel James Jones, a physician’s assistant with a PhD in health science, stated that his medical results are ‘perfect’ and show no abnormalities. Dr Jones confidently stated that President Trump is healthier than former President Obama. Trump seemed pleased with the response, nodding in agreement without a hint of a smile, implying there's no debate on the matter.
