What is the story about?
A photograph released as part of the Jeffrey Epstein files shows Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk at a dinner, sparking renewed interest in the disgraced financier's connections with elite circles.
The photo, emailed by Epstein to himself in August 2015, shows Zuckerberg and Musk around a table, with the convicted sex offender possibly behind the camera, Forbes reported.
The image of the ‘wild’ California dinner party was in the latest tranche of documents released by the Department of Justice.
According to another email included in the Justice Department files, Epstein mentioned he "had dinner with zuckerburg, mu=k, thiel hoffman, wild" - also referencing billionaire LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman and Palantir chairman Peter Thiel.
In the photograph, nine individuals are visible; several of them, including Musk, appear to be looking out of the frame toward the photographer's right.
Vanity Fair reported in 2019 about a dinner attended byElon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeffrey Epstein, allegedly arranged by Reid Hoffman to honour an MIT neuroscientist.
That's not it. Documents also show that Musk and Epstein corresponded over emails, but the Tesla CEO denied ever travelling to the financier's notorious island.
According to BBC, in November 2012, Musk wrote in one email: "What day/night will be the wildest party on your island?"
In December of the same year, he once again wrote: "I really want to hit the party scene in St Barts or elsewhere and let loose", adding that a "peaceful island experience" is the opposite of what he wanted.
Musk has since acknowledged that the emails might be used to ‘smear’ his name, adding he is concerned about the prosecution of "those who committed serious crimes with Epstein".
