Indian-American technology executive and investor Sriram Krishnan has announced that he will leave his role as Senior Policy Adviser for Artificial Intelligence at the White House "at the end of this month", saying he plans to continue "helping tackle some of the large challenges facing America on AI" after taking a break.
In a post on X on Saturday (June 6), Krishnan described serving in the administration as "the privilege of a lifetime" and said it had been "an honor to serve under President Donald Trump".
He also thanked White House AI and crypto czar David Sacks, saying his "continuing advocacy for America winning on AI has been and continues to be crucial".
Reflecting on his tenure, Krishnan said he was proud of "architecting and publishing the American AI Action Plan", advancing AI acceleration partnerships, contributing to a national AI policy framework and advocating for the American AI ecosystem at international summits and state visits.
Looking ahead, he said the past 18 months had given him "a front row seat to this critical moment on AI facing America and our allies".
He said that he planned on "building institutions that help tackle some of those challenges for America and its allies", particularly around issues such as energy, data centres and creating "a clear path for Americans to experience the benefits of AI".
Krishnan was named Senior Policy Adviser for Artificial Intelligence at the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy by then President-elect Donald Trump in December 2024.
Trump said at the time that Krishnan would work closely with David Sacks to help coordinate artificial intelligence policy across the federal government and support efforts to maintain US leadership in the field.
He went on to serve in the Trump administration after the President assumed office for his second term in January 2025.
Born and raised in Chennai, Krishnan studied Information Technology at SRM University before moving to the United States in 2007.
Over the course of his technology career, he held product and leadership roles at major technology companies including Microsoft, Yahoo, Facebook, X (formerly Twitter) and Snap.
Before joining the administration, he was a general partner at Andreessen Horowitz, where he focused on investments in artificial intelligence, software and consumer technology startups.
He became widely known in Silicon Valley through the popular technology podcast he co-hosted with his wife, Aarthi Ramamurthy.
