Massive flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border have killed at least 160 people and left hundreds missing, including tourists, pilgrims and workers, after a torrent of water, mud and rock tore through settlements, roads and hydropower projects on Wednesday.
Police said at least 157 bodies had been recovered in Nepal, while Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported three deaths and 265 people missing in Tibet's Gyirong County. Rescue operations remain under way, but collapsed bridges, destroyed roads and thick layers of debris have made it difficult for emergency teams to reach some of the worst-hit areas.
